Snowmobiling etiquette

  1. Always wear appropriate riding gear and a helmet when riding.
  2. Dress warmly, even under your riding gear. Layering is recommended.
  3. In Finland, snowmobile trails are two-way traffic, so always ride on the right side of the track. Watch the trail ahead and how far you can see ahead. Keep in mind that the track is often narrow, and make sure that you can stop the snowmobile in case of possible overtaking. The snowmobile must always be able to stop within sight.
  4. Be prepared for oncoming traffic and do not stop directly on the trail, but stop to the side of the trail so that others can pass safely.
  5. Only ride a snowmobile in areas and countries where it is legal. Just because you see track marks outside the trail does not give you permission to ride there.
  6. Never exceed your own driving abilities. Riding a snowmobile irresponsibly exposes you and other members of your riding party to accidents.
  7. Do not ride alone. Always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
  8. Do not ride a snowmobile while intoxicated.
  9. The speed limit on Finnish snowmobile trails is 60 km/h.
  10. Do not ride a snowmobile on the road. You may cross the road with caution and respect other road traffic.
