Kainuu offers snowmobilers varied terrain, freeride areas, well-maintained trails and a snow-sure winter in the middle of Finland. You can find guided snowmobile safaris in Kainuu, but also the opportunity to snowmobil independently, either with your own or rented snowmobile.


Kainuu Trail permits
You can find permits for snowmobiling on snowmobile trails in Kainuu municipalities or the entire province in our online store. Please note that on guided safaris you do not need a self-purchased permit.

Maintained routes
Kainuu offers snowmobilers a well-maintained and diverse network of routes and tracks across its eight municipalities. You can find guided safaris in most municipalities, but you can also make short day trips independently, or plan a tour of the entire province with alternative route options.
The routes that cross the Kainuu wilderness offer experiences and landscapes for all the senses: steep hills, sparsely wooded bogs, water crossings and visits to the towns of the municipalities.
Guided Safaris
Take part in a guided snowmobile safari and experience an unforgettable experience! Several service providers in Kainuu offer different safari products: you can go on a safari for a couple of hours or a full day with a guide. Safaris are also organized in the dark under a bright starry sky.

Central location
You don’t always have to drive to Lapland to find snow. Kainuu is literally in the middle of Finland, and here you can enjoy snow-sure winters from November–December until the end of April.
Did you know that Kainuu is one of the snowiest regions in Finland? In Puolanka snowfall reaches over a meter in most winters. Thanks to the reliable and abundant snow cover, the routes in Kainuu are smooth and safe to drive.
You can reach Kainuu from the capital region in about eight hours, from Central Finland in about four hours and from the Oulu region in about two hours.
