A New Dynamic Travel Marketplace Offers Arctic Lakeland as Convenient Travel Packages for International Tourists

A groundbreaking dynamic travel marketplace has been launched on the Arctic Lakeland website, bringing the tourism services of the Kainuu region within reach of international travelers through predesigned travel packages. The packages for the winter season combine high-quality accommodation with diverse program services. The platform was developed in collaboration with Elämys Group.

This innovation is unique to the tourism region and opens up new opportunities for local businesses to reach an international clientele. The service is designed especially for independent travelers who do not typically use traditional tour operator packages. Booking and payment have been made userfriendly — travel packages can be reserved effortlessly with just a few clicks directly on the website.

– “I am delighted that we have made the first phase of travel packages available for international customers on the Arctic Lakeland website. This makes it much easier for independent travelers coming to Kainuu to discover our amazing products and book them effortlessly,” says Aija Laukkanen, Head of the Arctic Lakeland Charter project.

Development Started with Local Business Collaboration

In February 2024, the Arctic Lakeland Charter project invited accommodation and activity service providers from the Kainuu region to an event introducing the new dynamic travel marketplace concept. Throughout the spring, representatives from Elämys Group personally met with interested businesses and visited their premises to gain a comprehensive understanding of their service offerings.

In the first phase, the winter travel packages published on the Arctic Lakeland website focus on Kuhmo, Paljakka, and Vuokatti. The packages range from five to eight days and include accommodation at the customer’s chosen hotel, along with a variety of activities. Customers can also customize their packages for an additional fee, such as upgrading their hotel accommodation or adding activities to suit their preferences.

In the next phase, summer packages will be added to the site for booking. During spring, the winter products for the 2025–2026 season will also be updated on both the Arctic Lakeland website and selected international digital channels.

– “We have started building the summer packages. Creating these packages requires further development of the digitally bookable activity offerings, which we will be working on together with local service providers,” says Jari Auranen, Chief Technology Officer at Elämys Group.

Developing Tourism in ARcTIC LAKELAND Kainuu through Collaboration

The dynamic travel marketplace was implemented as part of the development work of the Arctic Lakeland Charter project. The project is managed by the municipality of Sotkamo and is funded by Sotkamo, the Regional Council of Kainuu, and the cities of Kajaani and Kuhmo. This initiative
strengthens Arctic Lakeland’s position as an attractive travel destination in international markets and provides even more easily bookable services for global customers.
