Kajaani is the most populous town and capital of Finland’s Arctic Lakeland region (Kainuu). This 370-year-old city lies along the serene Kajaaninjoki River and by the picturesque Oulujärvi Lake. Kajaani is well-known for its pure nature with stunning landscapes and outdoor adventures, all alongside a vibrant cultural scene and rich literary heritage.

This summer getaway begins in Kajaani with a warm welcome at either Hotel Kajanus or Manor House Hotel Karolineburg, where you’ll enjoy three nights of comfort. Both hotels offer relaxing atmospheres with spacious rooms and delicious breakfasts to start your day. The tour is available from May to October (Summer months June-August), starting every Wednesday.

Explore Kajaani at your own pace, visiting the Kajaani Castle Ruins or enjoying a peaceful walk along the Kajaaninjoki River. Day 1 - Arrival in Kajaani

Your journey begins with a warm welcome and check-in at either Hotel Kajanus or Manor House Hotel Karolineburg, where you’ll spend three nights. Both hotels offer a relaxing stay with spacious rooms and a delightful breakfast to start your day. Hotel Kajanus provides a modern, family-friendly atmosphere and easy access to local attractions and outdoor activities, while the historic Manor House Hotel Karolineburg offers a charming, peaceful setting perfect for relaxation.

Day 2 - Free Day to Explore Kajaani

Your first full day in Kajaani you can have a relaxed morning with a leisurely breakfast, as this day is all about exploring the city and its beautiful surroundings at your own pace. Kajaani is renowned for its rich history and beautiful landscapes. You can visit the historic Kajaanin Linna (Kajaani Castle Ruins) or take a peaceful walk along the picturesque Kajaaninjoki River. If you’re interested in culture, the Kainuu Museum offers insights into local traditions such as hunting, fishing, and the tar trade, while the Kajaani Art Museum showcases contemporary art from Finland and abroad. Both museums offer free entry. Alternatively, you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the town’s parks and nearby nature reserves.

In the evening, enjoy a three-course seasonal dinner at Kitchen & Bar Kajanus, where you’ll taste the best local flavors and ingredients.

 

Day 3 - The ABC of Kayaking Tour

On Friday morning you will start your day with an exciting outdoor adventure on the water. Join the 2-hour ABC of Kayaking tour at 10am. This tour is designed for beginners who have always wanted to try kayaking but never had the chance. During the tour, you will learn the basics of kayaking, including how to paddle and safety tips, under the guidance of an experienced kayaking instructor. After kayaking, you’ll have free time to relax or explore more of Kajaani. You can grab a delicious lunch and continue discovering the town or unwind and enjoy the afternoon at your own pace.

Day 4 - Arctic Lake Experience & Sauna

On Saturday, leave Kajaani and travel to Oulujärvi for an unforgettable Arctic Lake Experience. Spend the night in a floating igloo over the artic lake, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. Relax in the comfort of your igloo and admire the peaceful atmosphere of the lake. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner served inside the igloo, followed by Finnish sauna experience. For the ultimate relaxation, take a refreshing dip in the lake and relax on your private igloo terrace while watching the sunset.

Day 5 - Departure

On Sunday, check out from your accommodation and head to Kajaani Airport for your departure. If you’ve reserved a transfer from us, we will ensure you’re taken to the airport in time for your flight. Safe travels!

Accommodation option 1: Hotel Kajanus

Hotel Kajanus offers comfortable accommodation in close proximity to the center of Kajaani.

All rooms are equipped with a TV, bathroom/WC, and free wireless internet access. Room rate also includes access to the customer sauna in the evening, free entry to the gym, and a generous breakfast.

You can relax at the Kaukavesi Aquatic Centre, located next to the hotel, or enjoy the scenic surroundings of the Kajaaninjoki River.

Parking is free for hotel guests and the hotel restaurant is open Monday to Saturday from 5 PM to 10 PM.

Accommodation option 2: Manor House Hotel Karolineburg

At the Manor House, the rooms are like its guests: individuals.

Accommodation options are spread between 2 separate buildings, all located on the fenced Manor House lands, protected by museum authorities. Manor House is from 1836. In the oldest building in the area, Pehtoorin Tupa (Manor Keeper’s house, 1835) you will find rooms that offer a hint of luxury and history in one interesting package. In the most recent building on the lands, the White House Inn (1949), you have everything you need for a simple stay in traditional hotel equipped rooms.

You will find a TV, an electric kettle with coffee/tea sets, a bathroom with shower, and most of our rooms also offer a private sauna!

Arctic Lake Experience combines an unique accommodation, arctic nature and activities. Located at a peaceful location, on a small bay by the lake. You can experience the arctic open Lake Oulujärvi, enjoy the sceneries, the starry skies and if you’re lucky, the beautiful northern lights.

Spending a night under the arctic sky in our premium level floating igloo, above the lake or ice, is a memorable experience. Depending on the season, you can spend the night enjoying the sounds of the ice or the waves.

Arctic Lake Experience igloo accommodation includes a fresh breakfast served to at the igloo. Accommodation includes also still water bottles, minibar, coffee&tea, tablewear and cooler. Igloo has air condition in summer and heater in the winter, so you can feel cosy and enjoy your stay in the unique environment.

The ABC of Kayaking Tour

Have you ever dreamed of kayaking but never dared or had the opportunity to try it? This program offers a solution. In the program, you’ll safely learn the basics of kayaking and safety factors under the guidance of an experienced kayaking instructor.

Dinner served in igloo

You will also have a special Arctic Lake Dinner to be served at the igloo. Dinner includes local Lake Oulujärvi fish, potatoes and salad from local fields and lingonberry dessert.

Sauna Experience

Enjoy 2-hour private sauna experience in a charming lakeside sauna, nestled on the picturesque shores of Oulujärvi. Relax in the warmth of the sauna, then take a refreshing dip in the clear waters of the lake, all while enjoying the stunning landscapes that surround you. It’s the perfect way to relax and reconnect with nature.
