Day 1 - Friday

Upon arrival in magical Finland, you will be warmly welcomed at Kajaani Airport and transported to your accommodation in Paljakka. In the evening, consider taking a short walk around the resort area to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and admire the starry sky. Day 2 -Saturday

Your first full day in Arctic Lakeland begins with a delicious breakfast at your resort restaurant. After that, it’s time to experience a true Finnish tradition: ice fishing on a frozen lake. You’ll meet your guide and head to a nearby lake, where you’ll learn the basics of this peaceful winter activity. Warm drinks will be served as you try drilling your own hole and wait for a catch. Any fish you catch will be prepared by your guide and served later as a delicious evening snack at Safari Kitchen & Bar.

Day 3 - Sunday

Sunday is a day for you to explore at your own pace—go sledding, take a walk, or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In the evening, it’s time to relax in true Finnish style with guided sauna programme at Paljakka Lake Resort. Three lakeside saunas, a hot tub, and a long pier for optional ice swimming are all available. As you move between the warm sauna and refreshing cool air—or even try a dip in the freezing lake—our sauna guide will share tips on how to sauna like a Finn. A cold plunge after a sauna is the unique Finnish sauna experience. On clear nights, you can admire the stars from the outdoor hot tub and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Day 4 - Monday

Today you will experience the beauty of Paljakka on a guided snowshoeing adventure through snow-covered forests and serene natural landscapes. The route takes you through diverse terrains, including one of Europe’s oldest spruce forests. The highlight of the tour is reaching the summit of Paljakka Hill, where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch by an open fire before descending back to the lowlands. This activity is suitable only for individuals in good physical condition, because of the length and height differences of the route.

Day 5 - Tuesday

Today you will head for an exciting adventure! The guided trip to a Reindeer Farm and a frozen waterfall begins in the morning. During your visit, you will learn all about reindeer and the traditions of reindeer herding from an authentic reindeer herder. You’ll even get the chance to feed the reindeer. A lunch is included during this tour.

On your way back, there will be a stop at Hepoköngäs Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Finland, with a stunning 24-meter drop. In winter, the waterfall transforms into a mesmerizing frozen wall of ice—a true winter wonderland sight. Hepoköngäs is perfect for those who want to witness the beauty of a frozen waterfall without a long hike.

Day 6 - Wednesday

If you wish to sleep in today, there’s no rush, as your day begins with plenty of time to relax. Your first activity starts in the afternoon, and it’s one of the most beloved winter experiences in Paljakka – Visiting a husky farm and trying dog sledding!

Meet the friendly, energetic huskies and learn about their daily life on the farm. You’ll have the chance to cuddle with these adorable dogs and capture some heartwarming photos for memories. Then, sit back and enjoy the snowy forest views as your guide takes you on a 2 km ride through the trails on a husky sledge.

After this exciting experience, take some time to unwind in the afternoon and enjoy the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. In the evening, you might want to enjoy a warm drink, take it easy, and spend time with your travel companions reflecting on the day’s adventures.

Day 7 - Thursday

Today is the day you’ll conquer the hills of Paljakka by snowmobile! The day begins at the Safari House, where you’ll gear up in warm thermal overalls and receive brief safety instruction and basic driving lessons, no previous experience needed. Once you’re set, it’s time to head out with your guide into the magical snowy forests of Paljakka.

The well-maintained snowmobile trail winds through beautiful, snow-laden landscapes and hilly terrain, offering spectacular views of the Arctic wilderness. A highlight of the safari is reaching a nearby hilltop that rises approximately 320 meters above sea level — the perfect spot for photos and admiring the scenery. Along the way, there are breaks for more photos and a relaxing stop for warm drinks and snacks. The total duration of the activity is 2–3 hours.

Day 8 - Friday

Now it’s time to say goodbye and begin your journey home, with memories that will last a lifetime. When you’re ready, you will be transferred to Kajaani Airport for your return flight back home. Safe travels!

During this program, you’ll learn about reindeer and reindeer husbandry from a genuine reindeer herder. You can also participate in feeding the reindeer. No previous dog sledding experience is required. For your safety and the well-being of our dogs, our skilled farm workers will drive the sleds, allowing you to relax and enjoy the snowy forest from the comfort of a sleigh.
