Reindeer farm and frozen waterfall

Safarisuomi safaris, Paljakka

Visit to a reindeer farm and frozen waterfall, Hepoköngäs WEEKLY PROGRAM GUARANTEED DEPARTURES ON TUESDAYS

During the reindeer farm visit, you will enjoy the beautiful surroundings of winter nature, learn about this traditional livelihood of Northern Finland and get a chance to feed the reindeers. We will also visit one of Finland’s highest natural waterfalls, Hepoköngäs.

In the winter of 2024-2025, as a guaranteed departure on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. as part of the Paljakka’s Weekly (December 27, 2024-March 31, 2025).

Reindeer herding came to Finland thousands of years ago. In Finland, reindeer husbandry is practiced through a system of reindeer herding areas. Paljakka is located in the southernmost reindeer husbandry area in Finland.

A reindeer is a half-wild, exotic animal that people would like to see it with their own eyes.  Led by our guide, you will get to visit a reindeer farm. The programme includes leaning about the reindeer and reindeer husbandry from an authentic reindeer herder. Everyone has the change to participate in feeding the reindeers. For our lunch we will barbeque sausages by the open campfire. We enjoy coffee/tea/juice, biscuits / Finnish buns and listen a reindeer herder telling us more about reindeers, husbandry, and his life on a reindeer farm.

On our way back from visiting the reindeer farm, we head to Hepoköngäs waterfall. With its drop of 24 meters Hepoköngäs is the highest waterfall in Finland. If there is anything that compounds the magical allure of a winter forest, it’s a frozen waterfall. In winter, the waterfall freezes over and turns into a giant wall of ice. If you want to see a beautifully frozen waterfall without a long hike, this is it!

The farm is located 45 min drive and the waterfall 25 min drive from Paljakka resort center.
